In a classic case of mistaken identity I go to see Mastodon thinking they’re Magnum and it takes only the first few seconds of their noise fest and lack of discernable lyrics to realise my mistake.

They have a good size crowd watching but this is no Monsters of Rock and they aren’t very involved with the huge slabs of metal.

I quite like their thrash metal styling but the songs appear fairly meaningless. After their fourth song I’m pretty bored and so are most of the crowd, think we need to be familiar with their stuff to appreciate and it seems no one has the records!

I might check out their tunes but live I lose interest and head elsewhere.
