Reading Festival 2005 review

Boy meets girl. Boy starts band with girl. Boy writes love songs in honour of girl. Boy and girl do very well indeed and finally, boy proposes to girl. And as far as wedding presents go, a packed Radio 1 Tent must rank pretty highly.

After bothering the toilet circuit and winning the odd talent show, it must be a joy for lead singer Billy to see thousands of people take over his vocal duties. Since the release of debut album ‘Young For Eternity’, what were once furious garage rock numbers are now genuine anthems, with singles ‘Oh Yeah’ and ‘Rock and Roll Queen’ bringing down the roof.

Be under no illusions – this is simple stuff, rock and roll at its distilled core; but with songs as care-free and exuberant as ‘Mary’ and new single ‘With You’, it’s difficult to argue.
