The Kills

Reading Festival 2005 review

By Scott Williams | Published:

The Kills show Juliette and the Licks how your supposed to do the frontwoman bit. Alison Mosshart slinks around the stage her raven hair flying. With just a drum machine and Jamie Hince on guitar they make a wonderfully rich sound.

Though the levels aren’t great, or the PA or my hearing is shot cos I can hardly make out a word she sings. But I don’t let that bother me as the sound they create is rich and rhythmic and great to groove to and ‘Cat Claw’is superb!

Half way through the set she dons a Gibson looking semi-acoustic for ‘Kissy Kissy’ and then a full fender electric for ‘Dead Road 7’ a fantastic live set and just goes to show drum machines are still alive and well. One of the many bands I’d like to see again playing a longer set next time.
