Dance music is all about building up to that amazing climax. That moment when the beat really hits home and that crazy sample sends the crowd into rapture. We’re in the middle of ‘Yeah’, and James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem are about to round off the set with one of these.

The beat drops... the samples stutter... the synths are prepared... and then! Um, nothing. The bloody keyboard isn’t working! Confused faces all round and a bit of nervous laughter as the band frantically try to extend the song to fit in the electo-pop freakout that would’ve sent the crazy dancing (already at dangerous levels) up a notch.

The best thing is that it doesn’t even matter. Tonight, LCD Soundsystem prove that they can make anyone – from hardened dance fans to metalheads – move as if the grass beneath them was made out of hot coals. ‘Losing My Edge’ is the highlight; a song so good it might just teach an Iron Maiden fan how to dance. Murphy waves happily at the crowd – just another load of new converts won over to the way of the dancefloor.
