Reading Festival 2005 review

By eFestivals Newsroom | Published:

“What?!” they all cried, “A band with only one album?! Headlining the Radio 1 Tent?! It’s just not possible!” That was what most would have thought upon hearing the line-up announcement heralding Kasabian’s step-up from Carling Tent success stories to bona fide headliners. Fast forward to quarter to midnight and fans are streaming off into the campsites still bellowing the chant from ‘LSF’ as if their lives depended on it.

With hordes of people unable to get anywhere near the tent, the atmosphere is electric, as the band draw the kind of frenzied crowd reaction that their beloved Leicester City would KILL for. Lead singer Tom is obviously taken aback by the sheer volume of the crowd, as his terrace-inspired vocals find their natural home. When he urges the crowd to “Take the roof off” for set closer ‘Club Foot’, they oblige – not only during the song itself, but long into the night. Forget debating whether or not they’re entitled to call themselves headliners – start debating whether or not they can call themselves legends yet.
