Less Than Jake

Reading Festival 2003 review

By Scott Williams | Published:

There I was all ready to write off Less Than Jake when they go and completely change my opinion of them. I love Less Than Jake now, along with System of a Down, they both proved over the weekend that you have to see a band to be able to comment on whether or not you actually like them.

But then I like ska and phat bass lines and I had overlooked the fact that that is what LTJ are! Funky beats that make you want to move your feet. A friend said he'd seen them before and that they encourage the crowd to dance around the sound stage. I look at the packed crowd and huge mixing desk and shake my head, it's never gonna happen.

Less Than Jake

Further into their set and they suggest the idea to an enthusiastic crowd. Who by this time are so full of boundless energy, they could have been told to do anything and would have bounded off puppylike to perform. Perform they did, next thing I know there is a river of sweaty tanned bodies flowing past us and we stand there like an island as they go round and round.

What songs they did, I couldn't tell you ... all I can say is I loved it!
