Oh happy days! The first (for me) festival of the year brought out friends, old and new, to one of the year's finest weekenders.

Arrived under dark brooding clouds which threatened, but never delivered, a downpour to the greetings of 'Ay up...i know your face!, camping here? then you're my neighbour....' I got set up, downed a brew - or two, looked for a few of the usual suspects then went in to see the first act of the weekend on the main stage, The Convulsions,. Top silliness indeed, lively, energetic, a fabulous way to kick the action off.

Next up were Drymbago who went down a treat, delicious melodies played from a great brass section with percussionists melding together to form a glorious fusion of folky, african vibes. Wonderful. One of the highlights, for me, of the event. Great to see folk dancing the grey clouds away.

Reformed for a year only, Edward II, rounded off the outdoor evening selection with rousing aplomb! Some old material, great covers, all delivered with the style and enthusiasm, natty dancing and smiles all round. There were not many in the packed courtyard not dancing.

The same could also be said of the indoor stage in the barn, already full when I arrived, the frantic sights and sounds in there warmed many a heart. Shamus Oblivion and the Megadeath Morrismen were kicking up a storm. Funny, fast, frantic full-power folk delivered with a vibrancy and cheerful abandon. Quality stuff.

Back outside I was a happy man to find a spare drum at an impromptu drum session and helped keep the beat going into the night - mission accomplished - bring on day two!
