Saturday brings a little sun shine; there's nothing more annoying than rain on the first day of a festival. The ground is chewed up by the tractors and quads that are run over the site.

around the site

As the stages all back against the hedges of the festival grounds, could these ground destroyers not stick to travelling around the outside of the site, to save what is left of the grass? Time for a little comedy to take our minds off it, and we catch a couple of a guy called Duncan Oakleyduring the one of the sporadic laughter sessions in the Kayled tent (there is no line up for these sessions). With funny and rude songs ('Down There' is so wrong but you can't help laughing) this local lad should go far.

Super Furry Animals

It's then time for the Scratch Perverts in the Traffic stage, who play a great set. Super Furry Animals are headlining tonight, and even though they take to the stage 40 minutes late the crowd are loving singer Gruff Rhys' space helmet. After a glimpse at new drum and bass darlings Contraband in Club Cog, it's off to watch Howard Marks in the Kayled, with his tales of lion shit and reindeer piss surrounded by lots of real smoke.

Frank Sidebottom is on next to my joy (another unlisted addition to the Sporadic Laughter line up), and his keyboard ditties with puppet Little Frank are very catchy. Even a minor power cut to the tent does no faze him in his gold jacket...
