Hyde Park Calling review

By Scott Williams | Published:

Lead singer Glenn Rossborough is wearing a blue Superman T and I’m wondering if the other blue superman T-shirt wearers I’ve seen on site are fans, but the audience is devoid of any clones. He’s very much more confident than the last time I saw him a few months ago at Hi-Fi and all the lads from Ireland are.

‘Never Simple’ shows he certainly has a voice that’s developed range and impact, from then too. The drum driven track has guitars swirling all over it, and their stuff now on a second listen has really grown on me, I’m liking their guitar and drum indie tunes infused with dance music vitality. They’re clearly enjoying playing to a full tent and definitely will be big come Christmas time.

The instant hit ‘Ecstacy’ has a dance beat hidden away in it but it’s injected with drums and no one’s leaving the tent as the beat builds up to get the front rows moving. This surely has to be their debut single.

All the tunes in the short set are good, some sound more evolved than last time, but there’s no denying the boys on the up and judging by the large crowd listening under the trees outside too they could be getting quite a following. They’ve got more festivals to come, it won’t be long until the first single possibly ‘Ecstacy’ or ‘Political Soul’ are served up to a hungry public.
