Hi:Fi (South) 2006 reviews

By Scott Williams | Published:

To an empty arena they played one track which had a slightly steel quitar feel to it and then left! We’re bemused, have they left cos they can’t be bothered? Turns out it was an extended soundcheck and that they came out to start their set proper afterwards.

They come back and Christoffer Høye the lead singer for the Scandinavian band, says they will play ‘I Don’t Like It’ after such waves of adulation from the packed crowd. Raising a giggle from the twenty or so people. They sound like The Cramps at times but there is no indication of how Christoffer is responsible for 15 millions singles sold in Japan. But the basslines wander maniacally and the added crazy keyboards from the lead singer. “Answering Machine” sounds very indie with the girl of the group, the bass player taking vocal duties while the theme to ‘Bonanza’ appeared to be reminiscent in the music.

The next tune started off quite gently before wandering into bizarre territory rapidly, they’d be perfect for John Peel if he hadn’t already broadcast their tunes. Weird noodlings and complex musicality with added strange noises bursts of guitar and a sound better suited to a later slot, but their music sounds interesting and worth finding for some interesting aural pleasure.
