Hi:Fi (South) 2006 reviews

By Scott Williams | Published:

Saturday, Hi:Fi South Live Arena

Festival Live Stage openers they started to a virtually empty tent and I’ve never heard of them before. The band hail from Ireland but the lead singer sounds Canadian when he speaks! Not knowing the track titles I’ve written the chorus lines where the titles isn’t forthcoming. “The Only One Standing in my Way” goes down well enough to a crowd of a hundred or so. The ska flavoured beats of ‘Superstar’ with its upbeat rhythm draws in more skipping stragglers into the tent. “This’ll Be the Last Time” has drum and bass in combining well into a pounding rhythm and they’ve managed to get the crowd to double in size. “Can You Dig It” has some indie guitar solos performed well and enough power to get the crowd moving.

Lead singer Michael Moloney asks, “Are we having a good time?” and the crowd’s cheers of affirmation prove that the tight musically rich tunes are going down a storm. Their ssingle ‘Reconnect’ builds to a frenzy and is well received. It’s well crafted and a good introduction to their sound. The four piece sound very pleasant and boppable, in a classic good tunes to feel good moul.

Overall pretty enjoyable with a nice sound and a band likely to be higher up on line ups in the future. They’ll rapidly develop a following with or without hype.
