Friday night’s headliner was Debbie Harry and you could tell, there were younger versions of her wandering around the site all day. Some looking so close to the original you had to double take to check she wasn’t actually there.

After a line up celebrating the alternative Eighties it was only fitting that Blondie were here as headliners for they are the biggest selling American Singles Selling Rock band in British history and it was a packed field that welcomed her on stage.

Blondie

They played something for everyone my daughter loved Tide is High, though at eight years old she was sceptical the atomic Kitten hadn’t done it first. Denis, Hanging on the Telephone, Heart of Glass and Union City Blue, Call Me were a few of the highlights delivered with style.

To think they have brought us so much over the years, Rapture was the first ever rap song to get to number one, they opened our ears to reggae, Eighties techno, the first ever video album and of course they rode the wave of punk. All in all we heard six number ones of a dozen or so top 10 hits.

Blondie

I last saw her at Glastonbury and felt this was even better, Debbie looked even better than she did a few years ago. Maria was great and sat happily amongst the old tunes. She may be getting on a bit, but Debbie is still the number one female pop icon and wonderful and Blondie were far and away the best band of the weekend.
