HowTheLightGetsIn is an annual philosophy and music festival offering over a hundred and fifty events, plus live performances. The event, now in its fifth year, is held at Hay-on-Wye in Powys, Wales from Thursday 23rd May to Sunday 2nd June 2013.

HowTheLightGetsIn, the world's largest philosophy and music festival, is back and this year's theme is 'Error, Lies, and Adventure'. The music programme now covers six stages, with bands, singers and acoustic artists, along with comedy and film-screenings.

Line-up

The line-up will see 410 events, across 6 stages, with 180 speakers, and 150 bands plus philosophers, writers, comedians, academics, and politicians as well as musicians.

Friday 24 May: Utah Saints, Alessi's Ark, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Electric Swing Circus, Nick Mulvey, The Beau Bow Belles.
Saturday 25 May: King Charles, Nerina Pallot, The Boxettes, Zen Hussies, Julia Biel, Sean Taylor, Benji Tranter, Mums Old Vinyl.
Sunday 26 May: Man Like Me, Jeffrey Lewis and the Peter Stampfel Band, Sweet Baboo, Orlando Seale and the Swell, Phildel, Kizzy Crawford, The Melodic, Dazee.
Monday 27 May: The Correspondents, Cocos Lovers, Serafina Steer, James Welsh, Tomos Lewis, Jamie Anderson.
Tuesday 28 May: Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo, Southgate & Leigh, Richard Walters, Jessie and the Brackish Breeze, God's Business.
Wednesday 29 May: Monster Ceildh Band, Roving Crows, The Hut People, JP, Cedric Maison.
Thursday 30 May: Ellen and the Escapades, Young Husband, Ana Silvera, Lori Campbell, Thrilogy.
Friday 31 May: Sam Lee, Moulettes, Baka Beyond, Marques Toliver, Gabby Young Trio, Joyce the Librarian, Waylayers.
Saturday 1 June: Andrew Weatherall, Stealing Sheep, Sheelanagig, Woodpecker Wooliams, Joe Volk, Abigail Wyles, Miss Maud's Folly, Chloe Foy.
Sunday 2 June: Deepgroove, Blaenavon Male Voice Choir.

Plus guests include Terry Pratchett who will be debate the role of myths and fantasies with A.S Byatt and Terry Eagleton , Oliver James, Frank Furedi and Richard Bentall examine 'Mind, Madness and Power' and former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair considers modern heroism with philosophers Susan Neiman and Angie Hobbs, with more to be announced.

But it won't all be cerebral. Across five venues there will be more than a hundred live performances, from acoustic songstresses to breathtaking beatboxers.

Camping

There is camping and parking available within a few hundred yards of the festival site, with on-site toilets, showers and security.
