"Hello, we're here to cheer you up with some songs of love and hate ... mostly hate." Thus started a self-deprecating and surprising raucous set from Tom, who had obviously decided the recently rain-moistened crowd needed livening up.
Beginning with selections from his new album, his band augmented by some very impressive cello playing, things didn't really start moving till 'a & b song' from his acclaimed debut album hit the speakers like a speeding juggernaut and much to the surprise of everybody, especially Tom, the sun came out. A few emotive songs later and the crowd were screaming for more.
