Afro Celt Sound System, Kefaya, & many more for Musicport 2017

The first acts have been announced for the 18th Musicport, which takes place - indoors, with 'indoor camping' as an option - from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd October 2017, at Whitby Pavilion, North Yorkshire across 6 stages.

Leading the names are Afro Celt Sound System, and Kefaya, along with Mali's Trio Da Kali (still to be confirmed), Tcha Limberger Trio from Hungary, 'Orchestra Of Samples' with Addictive TV, Maia Barouh (Japan/France)Omar Puente's Cuban Sextet, Maya Youssef Trio (Syria)Kumpania Algazarra(Portugal, still to be confirmed), Andy Kershaw, Hope & Social, Kathakali Theatre Company, Rory McLeod & Familiar Strangers, Himmerland (Denmark)Fistful Of Spookies, Jamie Smith's Mabon (Wales), O'Hooley & Tidow, Ribbon Road, Grace Petrie, Joanne Harris & the Storytime band, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican, and back by popular request are Bob's Blundabus. Many more acts will be announced over the coming months.

Festival director Jim McLaughlin said "Afro Celt Sound System have long been on our wish list so we're delighted on the back of their excellent new CD they have decided to tour again and that Musicport will be one of their few festival appearances this year. Kafaya are an astonishing new act comprising of musicians we have known over many years and both they & Afro Celts are on shortlist as best group in 2017 Songlines Awards. All the way down the list of acts there are surprises and delights of the highest order and with more still to be confirmed
