The event is based on the town centre's streets and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the UK, and from the rest of the world. The festival features both contemporary and traditional music with a mixture of singers and musicians, plus Morris Dancers, ceilidh groups and callers.

Concerts take place at the Tivoli Theatre and Allendale Centre. Artists booked for 2008 have now been announced: Grada; Lau; Hugh & Colm Healy Band; Edey, Power & Randall; Mike Silver, Johnny Coppin & Jo Partridge; Boo Hewerdine; Tom McConville, Claire Mann & Aaron Jones; Bodega; Colvin Quarmby; Les Barker; Kris Drever; Diskan; Lou Brown; Tinderbox; and Cruel Folk; and many more are expected.

Ceilidh Band artistes include the Bursledon Village Band with caller, Will Hall; and the Dartmoor Pixie Band with caller, Sara Beasley.
