Known until last year as the Bridgnorth Folk Festival, the Shrewsbury Folk Festival is a four day event blending a tradition of folk music and dance from the UK and around the world.

The 2008 line-up includes Richard Thompson, Bellowhead, Oysterband, Lunasa and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. For more line-up details please click here.

Performances take place in the Main Stage Marquee, Dance Marquee and in the Sabrina Marquee (for open mic sessions and singarounds). There are also dedicated Youth and Children's programmes running throughout the weekend.

For 2008 the festival is expected to remain at its new location across the river, at the West Midlands Showground. This venue is flat, has tarmac roadways throughout and there is ample free parking. There are also flushing toilets and showers, and buildings for workshops and sessions plus improved access for those with disabilities.

Other additions to the festival will be an on-site shop, a shuttle bus service into Shrewsbury town centre, seated marquees, and an increased capacity. There will still be a bar selling real ales and caterers selling a wide variety of food but it is worth noting that ticketing policy.

Tickets were on sale at a reduced rate and are now priced for a full 4 day ticket: Adult £89, Youth (11-17) £44.50, Family (2 adults, 2 youths) £240.50, Children under 11 FREE.Online ticket sales will close at 3.00pm on Thursday 21st August 2008, after which point bookings can only be over the telephone on 01746 768 813. Bookings (either postal or phone) received will be held for collection at the box office at the West Midlands Showground. Only full weekend tickets, with or without camping or Monday only tickets are available.

There will be no festival village tickets, no daytime only tickets except on Monday and no evening only tickets. However the combined all day and evening ticket (a one day season ticket) will still be available. One day season tickets will be restricted in numbers to be fair to weekend season ticket holders. If venues fill up, the festival will have a pass-out system to enable you to retain your seat inside the venue. To buy a ticket click here.

As well as two fully-seated stages, there will also be an Open Mic marquee, ceilidhs, a dance display area, children’s and youth’s events, singarounds, workshops, plus opportunities to 'Meet the Artist'. There are also many events taking place in the town of Shrewsbury itself.

More information will be here when available.
