Fuelled By Cider Newsletter 2022

Dear Fuelled By Cider family member,

We hope you are healthy and happy and continuing to enjoy the live music and festival scene that we are all privileged to be a part of.

Below is some information on our upcoming events in 2023. Tickets are selling well for all of them and we look forward to another year of making great memories.

We have also posted some words about the impending economic challenges that we are all collectively facing, and how Fuelled By Cider will navigate this to make our events as inclusive and accessible to everyone at such a difficult time. Above all this is a community and we want to keep it together.

As ever, thanks for continuing to attend Fuelled By Cider events and making it the unique and very special experience that it continues to be.

Mike, Kev and and the FBC Team

A message from the heart of Fuelled By Cider....

We wanted to reach out and say that we are fully aware of the upcoming economic challenges, and start an honest conversation about what that means for Fuelled By Cider. We have evolved into something far greater than a music promoter and are now part of an incredible community of people, so it's only right that we have this discussion together.

As an organiser of festivals and live music, we find ourselves in a difficult position. It often feels uncomfortable to be posting happy emojis and cheeky humour, asking people to spend their hard-earned money on festival tickets, while the cost of living bites hard into basic necessities such as food, heating, fuel and housing costs. On the other hand, we know how important it is for people to have an outlet for fun, joy and hope, and that the prospect of a weekend in a field with like-minded people and performers is what can keep us going in the dark times.

Although we might try to deny it Fuelled By Cider is also a business. A small and sometimes unprofitable one, but a business all the same! Making money was never the inspiration for getting involved in live music and festivals, and is not our motivation a decade later. But we do need to succeed financially if we are to survive and continue to provide a home for our wonderful tribes to converge and have good times.

Therefore we will continue to beat the drum of positivity, and continue to sell tickets for our events in the belief that festivals will continue to be vital. We will do this with respect for the fact that times are hard and decisions will be tough, and that not everyone can attend everything. However we hope to see most of you at something FBC-related in 2023.

Given the challenges ahead, we will make a firm commitment to our festival goers. Support us and we will offer you the best events within our ability and budget. The cost of putting on a festival has risen dramatically - fuel prices affect nearly everything involved in running an event – but we have tried our best not to pass this directly on to you good folks who have supported us thus far.

Things we have done to encourage fairness and opportunity include:

* Very limited increases to our ticket and bar prices, which we feel have always been very good value in comparison with similar events.

* Maintaining or increasing the budget for our music line-ups rather than reducing the quality of acts on offer. For example, many people are saying that the line-up for Cursus 2023 is our strongest yet and we are inclined to agree! We have always paid all of our acts a fee and will continue to do so.

* Early Bird ticket prices for previous attendees, plus a deposit / repayment scheme for higher priced events such as In Cider (see further information below).

* The opportunity to volunteer on our amazing festival crew in exchange for a ticket.

These do not solve the deeper financial problems that some people are facing, but we want to offer as much opportunity as possible for people to attend our events while not compromising the FBC experience or our own future.

For every ticket sold, past and future, we are very grateful for your support. Your loyalty helped us survive the challenges of Covid, and it's essentially how we will win the next battle too. So please do like and share our social media posts, tag your friends, speak to them in the pub and encourage them to join the FBC family next year. Every advance ticket sold brings the reality a little closer. We are independent, grassroots and led by the people who attend, and offer an experience that you will not find at large, corporate festivals.

A wild and rustic weekend awaits you at Outcider Festival 2023, on the working Fernhill Farm just 10 miles south of Bristol. This is our 9th year and we look forward to seeing faces old and new down on the farm!

Outcider prides itself on being fun, friendly and inclusive, and boasts a line-up of nearly 40 acts over 4 days. This year's headliners Dub Pistols are joined by the likes of Bar Stool Preachers, Pet Needs, Black Water County, The Hawkmen, Skimmity Hitchers, Shaun McGowan and The Scribes, with other exciting acts across a range of genres. Our 2 barn-covered stages alternate, meaning no line-up clashes and maximum enjoyment!
