Pickering Folk Festival is cancelled

Pickering Folk Festival has had to be cancelled at the last minute after a site inspection yesterday revealed the site of the Pickering Folk Festival is covered in standing water. The festival's website (here) states:

It is raining now and more heavy rain is forecast over the next three days so the event has been cancelled in the interests of public safety. The Events Office will be in contact with you after the weekend.

The event was hoping to be the first festival of its kind to be held in the parkland at the Pickering Showground and the Northern Events Arena in Pickering, North Yorkshire running from today, Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August.

The line-up for the cancelled event included The Waterboys (Acoustic), Cara Dillon, Luka Bloom, Johnny Dickinson, Tiny Tin Lady, Maire Ni Chathasaigh & Chris Newman, Eddi Reader, Last Night's Fun, Chris Difford (Squeeze) & Boo Hewerdine, Nizlopi, Eliza Carthy Band, Demon Barber Roadshow, Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick, and many more.

Other festivals due to happen this weekend are not reporting any similar problems and are going ahead without any problems.
