Glastonbury Festival's late night entertainment has a renowned history, in past incarnations it has been Lost Vagueness, the infamous Traveller's Field and way back when, the Experimental Music Fields.

This year there will be a new nocturnal entertainment area Shangri-La, organised by a new collaboration of the same subversive sub-culture that has reclaimed and re-invented these hallowed fields so many times before.

This latest evolution of after dark fun will be a unique and enormous collection of artists from the UK's creative underground and it is an unleashing of their new projects, fresh talents and bold ideas.

Covering over 40 acres - three large fields - Shangri-La will encompass 12 separate stages and many other surprise attractions. It will be licensed until 6am over both the Friday and Saturday nights of the Festival.

A new community interest company called The Rebel Alliance has been founded to support, promote and protect the many exceptional organisations and individual artists that comprise Shangri-La.

"We thank Michael Eavis, for the opportunity to create Glastonbury's Shangri-La and we're happy to be working across from our great friends at Trash City, who are part of the same family. We'll be bringing you a whole new interactive world to discover, with all the elements of surprise and edge that you’ve come to expect, but seriously enhanced by a whole new level of delight." The Rebel Alliance.

Late night revellers can expect a host of new thrills housed within Shangri-La, and some of the delights on offer have now been revealed. With names that spark your imagination there's the Slumbarave, the Jacuzzi Lounge, Shackney, Club Dada and Bassline Circus. Fancy a hoe down at the Barn Stage or what about a nice pint of cider in the proper Pub! Hidden within this night owl's paradise will also be a Secret Garden, plus Phil's Diner and The First Class Lounge, we also should take the opportunity to warn you of the Boardwalk if you’re of an overly sensitive disposition.

For those that remember the Traveller’s fields of old then there’s a homage to them planned in Nomads Land which remembers the area’s travelling and free-party roots and Clash legend Joe's party venue is remembered with the Strummerville Campfire.

Then there is Come & Play which offers the opportunity to create your own earthy paradise, The Gramophon Salon and if you fancy a rave you've got to head for The Tilted Disco House which it’s assured will make you feel like you’re tripping even if you gave up that sort of thing years ago.

Central to Shangri-La will be a traditional village green, complete with sideshows. The full musical line-up will be revealed, alongside the rest of the main festival acts, at the beginning of May.

"This is a new venture, on a par with the launch of the Park last year, and I'm really excited about it," said Festival organiser Michael Eavis. "These are the fields that started off as Wango Riley's, back in the old travellers' days. They've got history, character and a great track record. As always we are continuing to improve and expand, and we're expecting this area to provide even more fun. I can promise it'll be 100 per cent better!"
