last updated : Wed 2nd Jul 08 The dates for 2008 are confirmed as Friday, 17th - Sunday, 19th October, plus a new venue: the newly refurbished Bridlington Spa Theatre and Royal Hall, on Bridlington's sea front, which boasts an Edwardian theatre and art deco style 1930's ballroom. The festival features world music, and the organisers expect to retain the intimate atmosphere despite using a larger venue. Acts already booked include: Ivo Papasov & His Wedding Band, The Levellers, Rolf Harris, Ska Cubano, and Toumani Diabate headlining with Moussu T E Lei Jovents, Billy Cobham and Asere, The Warsaw Village Band, Reem Kelani, Radik Tülüsh, Martin Simpson, Maalstroom, Kathakali Theatre Company, Mor Kabasi, The Bikini Beach Band, Robert Maseko, Carmen Souza, The Young Coppers, The Outernationalists, The Hut People, Mambo Jambo, The Lani Singers, and Skavolution. Alvin Youngblood Hart's Muscle Theory will perform at the Maryport Blues Festival on Friday July 25th, supporting Chuck Berry and replacing the previously billed Shemekia Copeland. The musical bill will be complimented by dance/drama from the Kathakali Theatre Company from Kerala, India. As well as two main stages there will be a DJ room, a visual arts and workshop area, a festival club, film programme, children's festival, an expanded market festival bazaar, and Musicport's first silent disco. There are also numerous stalls selling musical instruments, crafts and so forth, Fair Trade goods, and information stalls on issues of global interest. This year, the workshops include drumming workshops run by the Sam Kelly, and guitar workshops run by Robin Bibi. The drumming workshops will be held in Maryport’s prestigious new cultural and community centre, The Wave and the guitar workshops will be held in the main marquee on Netherhall rugby ground. Tickets are available to buy now, priced as follows: full weekend (Early Bird until 31st July) adult £75.00; full weekend (Early Bird) young person 11-18yrs £40.00; Children from 0-10 years old inclusive are Free; Friday night ticket including The Levellers £27.50.
