The Sun newspaper, (here), is reporting that 1970s novelty pop group The Wombles are in talks to appear at this summer's Glastonbury Festival.

The newspaper reports that The Wombles "are understood to be eyeing up a Sunday afternoon slot on the Pyramid stage."
The Wombles who had major hits in the music charts in the Seventies including 'Remember You're A Womble' featured musicians dressed as the characters from children's TV show The Wombles, which in turn was based on the children's book series by Elizabeth Beresford.

Songwriter and producer Mike Batt wrote the series' theme tune, and went on to perform and produce a number of highly successful albums and singles as The Wombles. The band had a string of Top Ten hits before they split in 1976.

The newspaper reports that the band are in discussion with festival organisers to take a coveted Sunday afternoon slot on the Pyramid stage. A source is rported in the newspaper, as saying "Discussions have been opened about The Wombles playing Glastonbury. They're certainly keen to be there."

The Wombles' motto is "Make Good Use of Bad Rubbish" and this "green" message was a reflection of the ecology movement of the 1970s, and the Festival itself has a green ethos.

Worthy Farm, the home of Glastonbury Festival, will also soon play host to the UK's largest private 'green' solar electricity system. Farmer and Festival organiser Michael Eavis is about to invest in 1,500 square metres of solar panels, which will generate the same amount of power annually as used by 40 homes.

Michael Eavis said of the green initiative, "It's a very exciting project for us. We first had renewable energy at the Festival in 1979 and we've been trying to increase it ever since. We want the Festival, and the farm, to be as green as they can be. The solar panels will make a huge contribution towards that."

His daughter Emily Eavis also organised an eBay auction for Oxfam, which raised over £120,000 in just two weeks. All the money will go directly to Oxfam's rebuilding programme in Haiti, aiding the survivors of the catastrophic earthquake.

Acts confirmed for the Festival include Friday headliners U2, as well as Jack Johnson, early Emerging Talent winners My Luminaries, and The John E Vistic Experience. To see the latest rumours of who else will be joining them click here, updated as we receive information.

Tickets have sold out for this year's Glastonbury Festival which runs for five full days from Wednesday 23rd until Sunday 27th June 2010 across a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset. There will be no more tickets on sale until sometime early in 2010.

Those people who purchased their tickets on the deposit scheme are reminded they only have until the end of this month to pay the balance.
