The colourful, sun kissed Glastonbury Festival was a roaring success this year, and a vintage one likely to be talked about for year's to come. The festival tried something new with a rap headliner, and his performance silenced critics within minutes.

The rapper Jay-Z opened with a video montage that was quite possibly the highlight of the festival, and played to one of the largest crowds ever assembled in front of the Pyramid Stage.

The Festival also led the way in revealing new, hot, and upcoming talent, with the Park Stages, Other Stage, and John Peel Stage all offering a plethora of exciting new acts to entertain the masses.

There were also some vintage performances to thrill the crowds this year with Leonard Cohen, Joan Armatrading, Buddy Guy, Neil Diamond, and Eddy Grant all performing memorable sets.

It was good to see the newly named Bella's field so busy. The vibrant field overseen by a giant letter 'B' was renamed in memory of Arabella Churchill who was the organiser of the festival's theatre and circus fields. The sunshine meant that theatre and circus performers who have been stifled with rain for the last few years could excel, the crowds were entertained and it seemed more festival goers than ever before were exploring other parts of the festival.

The festival had more colourful flags and site art than ever before, decorating other areas of the site as well as the newly expanded fields above the The Park area which provided a jaw dropping vista of the festival.

The newly created Shangri La, and last year's addition The Park Stage, both proved to be great hits with the crowds who by Sunday had reached 170,000 festival goers on site enjoying the fantastic atmosphere.

This year more people than ever before arrived early, and it clearly made a difference with the festival having a much more relaxed atmosphere once the main stages started. This year the Festival sold the last remaining tickets by putting Sunday day tickets on sale, and the crowds were boosted with happy visitors who marvelled at the fact no one was muddy.

All in all a terrific year, Glastonbury firmly put itself back on the map as the best festival in the world, with infrastructure, and services all much smoother this year. The organisers must be heartily congratulated for providing what really was the best festival ever in terms of everything coming together and working. Glastonbury Festival proved it hadn't lost its charm, and is still the king of festivals.

We'll have loads of reviews and pictures of the festival online shortly (we're recovering just like you are).
