Vamos Festival returns from Friday 2nd to Sunday 11th July 2010 with events across the North East celebrating the culture and vibrancy of Latin and Lusophone (Portuguese speaking) cultures.

Events

The festival will host exciting events across Newcastle, Gateshead, Middlesbrough and North Tyneside including; Live Lucha Libre Mexican Wrestling; a documentary about the music from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro produced by Diplo; secret restaurants in Latin homes across Newcastle and Gateshead and an exclusive performance and discussion with members of the Danza Contemporánea de Cuba.

The ten action packed days also include live contemporary and traditional Latin music, vibrant visual art exhibitions, authentic Latin cuisine and outdoor picnics, enlightening talks and thought provoking discussions.

Line-up

Transtango, Rumba Ne, Patricia Oliart, Paco Bethancourt & Flamencos del Norte, Zingaros, Chinchivi, Gilles Petersen, Roberto Fonseca Band, Danay and Ogguere, Octo Push, DJ Vamanos, Moviementos DJ Cal Jadar, Diplo, Violadores del Verso, and DJ Panko from Ojos de Brujo, plus other DJs, acts, promoters and dance performers.

Dance

The festival offers the opportunity to sample the diversity and liveliness of Latin Dance styles from professional dancers and demonstartions, Afro-Peruvian styles, from tango, Cuban cha-cha-cha and rumba, the swing and jitterbug and paso doble, and to join in. Many of the region's best Salsa dancers uniting to share their passion for dance.

Ballet

Exclusive performances from some of the world's leading ballet dancers from Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, who fuse their Afro Cuban, European and New York influences, and are one of the most exciting dance companies in the world.

Vamos Festival is a biennial event. The first festival took place in 2006 and was a great success as was the second ten day festival in 2008.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
