Streatham Festival 2009

This year's annual Streatham Festival, now in its 7th year, takes place from Saturday 4th July until Sunday 12th July and brings a mix of local, national and international performers to the heart of Streatham, Greater London.

The festival starts on Saturday 4th July with an open-air fun day at the top of Streatham Common, over the nine days 40 events will take place throughout the week, ranging from concerts and comedy to walks, talks, films and open air theatre.

Headliners during the week are Alejandro Toledo and the Magic Tombolinos, Kasai Masai, and Ballet Rambert. Other musical entertainment includes Joanna-Marie Bleach and Jenny Roger Crossdale Duo, Streatham Choral Societys Summer Concert, Gwyneth Herbert, Reuven Gershan, Festival Evensong and Recital with choir of St Peters, Trevor John, Sam Guilder, Claire Hirst Trio, Opera Jukebox, Cockney Knees Up, Howard Wong Recital, Kelia Philipsz, Summer Baroque, The Woodlarks, The Beckenham Concert Band, Alabama 3, Pete Laity and Keith Eardley, and Ade Omotayo and Will Rutter.

The theme of this year's Festival is water. Streatham was once a fashionable spa when mineral springs were discovered in the 17th century. To celebrate this watery heritage, the children's carnival parade 'The Parade of the Giant River Beasts' will be making its way through the streets of Streatham on 4th July.

Many of the events are free, some have retiring collection, and some events are priced from £1 to £10 depending on the event.
