An outdoor three day festival focusing on alternative music, as well as a complete programme of stand-up comedy, film, visual arts, literature and (street) theatre. The event is held from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th August 2013 and goes under the longer title of A Camping Flight To Lowlands Paradise. It is situated in Biddinghuizen, which is a town in the Dutch province of Flevoland.

The festival plays host to 55,000 attendees, several hundred performances divided over three areas and eight stages, many bars and global restaurants, a market, hippie hangouts, campsites with showers, a radio station, a daily newspaper, and a unique currency.

Line-up

The first acts confirmed are Alabama Shakes, Atlantic Attraction, Band Of Horses, Bat For Lashes, Ben Pearce, Bombino, Bullet for my Valentine, Circo Ripopol, Les Baigneurs: Sara Martinet, Nicole Seiler, Disclosure, Editors, Fall Out Boy, Foals, Franz Ferdinand, Les Frères Carton, De Gillende Keuken, Half Moon Run, Imagine Dragons, Jacco Gardner, Jake Bugg, Kendrick Lamar, The Knife, The Lumineers, Major Lazer, Maya Jane Coles, Moderat, Murmuyo Y Metrayeta, The Menzinger, Model Depose, Nine Inch Nails, NJO Reich Ensemble, Okidok, Petite Noir, Pokey LaFarge, Poliça, PROTOJE & The Indiggnation, Slayer, Tame Impala, Torche, Trukitrek, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and We Came As Romans.

Tickets

Weekend tickets were priced at 185 euros including 10 euros for service, camping and shuttle bus and have sold out as usual in just a few hours as in previous years, with only a moderate amount of tickets held back to annoy scalpers. Day ticket options are still available. To buy tickets, click here.

Camping

Camping opens Thursday (officially at 6pm but usually earlier in the afternoon), has to be fully cleared Monday morning at noon.

Getting there

Direct trains run from Amsterdam to Lelystad Centrum, and take about an hour. From Lelystad a free shuttle buses take visitors to the festival site which is in a remote location, don't expect to be able to make any purchases at nearby shops.

Local laws and customs

Under Dutch law, possession of up to 5g of marijuana or the equivalent of hashish is tolerated. However, it is unsure whether foreigners will still be able to purchase any legally in 2013 due to stricter coffee shop laws which enforce a membership scheme which is only open to Dutch citizens. Lowlands allows visitors to bring up to 8 litres of drinks with them to the camping grounds. Other than what one can pour into a plastic cup none of that is allowed on the festival grounds. Glass bottles are strictly forbidden, including in the campsite.

More information will be here when available.
