Leamington Peace Festival 2009

The Leamington Peace Festival, running for nearly 30 years, is a free festival that aims to promote an understanding of international peace in all its aspects. This includes: environmental harmony and living in cooperation with others; enabling organisations and individuals to participate during the festival weekend; raising awareness of world and local issues by giving individuals ways of becoming involved in the world around them; providing an opportunity for local crafts people to demonstrate their skills and display their crafts; promoting fair trade practices and encouraging local artists and entertainers to share their skills.

Music is one of the main attractions during the festival; it provides an opportunity to witness the fusion of musical media and different cultures providing the soundtrack to an exciting and enjoyable weekend. The deadline for music demos has closed and decisions are now being made regarding who will grace the festival stage. The final thirty acts including headliners will be announced soon as well as those shortlisted for the Battle of the Bands event which takes place in May.

Music is interspersed with talks on peace and other global issues. This year's line-up has not yet been announced.

The festival features two entertainment areas, a children's tent, a workshop tent, and over 120 stalls representing charities, activists, religious and philosophical groups, healers, pressure groups, craftspeople, and fair traders. The Festival runs from 11am - 9pm on Saturday, and 11am - 6pm Sunday.

A Peace Festival Poster competition has been launched for students in North Leamington School and Campion School. Youngsters are being asked to design the festival poster which will reflect their own interpretations of peace and celebration.
