Grassington Festival 2008

This festival is set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, just north of Skipton, and offers a wide variety of events - from jazz, folk, gospel and classical music performances to 'celebrity evenings' and exhibitions, workshops, theatre and puppetry taking place during the last fortnight in June.

Most performances take place in a Festival Marquee with fantastic views across the Dale providing an uplifting end to the festival fortnight. Other gigs take place at local pubs and churches and there is music and street theatre in the Town Square.

Some of the 2008 programme has now been announced. Festival in the Field events include Aled Jones with the London Community Gospel Choir (25th June); Clare Teal and the BBC Big Band (26th June); Dara O Briain (27th June); Toyah Willcox + Dr & the Medics – Back to the 80s - A Last Night Celebrations and Party (on 28th June).

The programme at the beginning of the week is planned so far as follows:
Friday,13th June: Courtney Pine and his band
Saturday, 14th June: King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys - swing and jive band.
Saturday, 14th June: Stile Antico - Vocal early music at St Michael's, Linton.
Sunday, 15th June: 'The Pity of War' - Martin Roscoe and Matthew Trusleron piano and violin, narrated by Timothy West.
Monday, 16th June: Blazin Fiddles
Tuesday, 17th June: Joanna Macgregor - piano recital.
Wednesday, 18th June: Barry Cryer.
Thursday, 19th June An evening with Steven Venables - mountaineer and adventurer.
Friday, 20th June: The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
Saturday, 21st June: TBA.
Sunday, 22nd June: The Sound of Tibet - with Monks from the Tashi Lhunpo monstery in Tibet.
Monday, 23rd June: An evening with General Sir Mike Jackson - ex commander of the british army.
Tuesday, 24th June Dales Jam and community Jazz choir.

NOTE: It costs £20 per year to become an active supporter of the festival and you get the chance to pre book before tickets go on general sale.

In the event of inclement weather, outdoor performances and workshops will take place in the Town Hall, where possible.
