Glastonbury Fayre 1979

Glastonbury Fayre 1979

Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd June 1979
Worthy Farm, Pilton, nr Glastonbury, Somerset
£5
last updated: Mon 11th Nov 2002

This is the first official "commercial" Glastonbury Festival, with a fund-raising aim - profits go to the UN Year of the Child and help found Children's World charity.

For the first time there is a Theatre area. The main stage (not a pyramid) includes Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hillage (maaan!;-), Tom Robinson, UK Subs, Sky, Nona Hendryx and The Only Ones.

Around 12,000 turn up, but although the event makes a large loss money is still found for the charities.
