The community led Folk Weekend returns for a sixth year from Friday 15th until Sunday 17th April 2016 and will be based again at the Old Fire Station, with additional events in other venues throughout the city centre.

A weekend of Morris dancing, concerts and performances, a host of free song and music events, and a huge ceilidh.

Line-up

Martin Carthy, Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman, and Emily Portman Trio are confirmed as headliners.

Also confirmed are Coope Boyes & Simpson, Rachel Newton, Hannah James' Jigdoll, Megson, Simon Care Trio, Tobias Jacob & Lukas Drinkwalker, and Count Drachma. Plus Tom Blackburn, Ben Avison, Small & Gold, Irwing-Brown-Acty, The Skeptics, Kismet, and Short Drag Roger.

Alongside this varied concert line-up, the festival promises ceilidhs, workshops, European-style dancing, Morris dance displays, and many free family events. Folk Weekend is proud to be paving the way in accessible and inclusive music-making, and is building on 2015's first 'relaxed' performance with a series of events during festival Saturday, which aim to encourage members of the community who may normally feel excluded from the folk arts. These Special Saturday events include a Makaton-signed performance of folk songs, a ceilidh for people with Special Needs, and a workshop exploring the use of technology in making music more accessible.
