The event which sprang up when Oxford Folk Festival was cancelled. The community led Folk Weekend returns for a third year from Friday 19th until Sunday 21st April 2013 and will be based at the newly refurbished Old Fire Station, with additional events in other venues throughout the city centre.

A weekend of Morris dancing, concerts and performances, a host of free song and music events, and a huge ceilidh.

Line-up

Friday: Magpie Lane, Rising Voices Community Choir, The Ship Band and caller Aidan Hansell.

Saturday: Jackie Oates, Jenkinson's Folly, Tyde, Bryony Griffith and Will Hampson, Boldwood, Simon Care leading an All-Star ceilidh band.

Sunday: Melrose Quartet, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, Jess and Richard Arrowsmith, James Delarre and Saul Rose, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, Tandara Mandara, Dogan Mehmet, Ian Giles, The Teacups, Mike Gibson, and Eynsham Morris.

There will also be plenty of informal music sessions around the town – some programmed, some not! There will be details and a map of session pubs in the printed programme.

Tickets

An adult weekend tickets is priced at £46, concessions (NUS/OAP/Disabled/Unemployed) ticket £40, and a youth ticket is priced at £30, with under 5s able to attend for free. Season and all-day tickets allow free admission to all events, day tickets are also expected to be available at a later date.

Oxford Village Fête

New for 2013 is the Oxford Village Fête – right next door to the main venue, it will offer music, dance, and craft. Offering fairground games, have a go at arts and crafts with the Handmade Makers, and Morris dancing! Organisers are inviting charities and good causes to get involved by holding a stall at the Fête – a chance to showcase their work and reach out to new supporters. There will be plenty of activities for all – including a family ceilidh on Saturday lunchtime, a concert on Saturday evening, and Morris Dancing and a Craft Fair at Oxford Castle all weekend. There will be free performances, workshops and informal music sessions, and you can even learn how to dance a schottische at the Euro-dance on Sunday afternoon!

The local community have once again pulled together to contribute to the event; Oxford Historical Dance Society are organizing an evening dance, The Ashmolean Museum are hosting free performances on the Saturday and Sunday, Oxfolk and the Folk Camps Society have sponsored events, hundreds of school children will be performing in the Wesley Memorial church, Oxford Fiddle group are playing a concert, and Oxford Folk Club and Foolish Folk are running fringe events on the Friday night.
