As soon as I heard that Megadeth were playing at Download, I decided that I would make sure I get to Download even if I had to sell my own grandma to achieve that objective.

Then the rumours started flying that this was going to be Megadeth’s last ever UK gig. So not wanting to miss there last ever UK appearance- I made sure that we arrived nice and early at the main stage to capture Dave Mustaine and crew at their peak.

With this being their final UK gig, part of me was hoping that they would do something special as a thank you to all of the fans, certain ideas like possibly Metallica joining them on stage to do a couple of Kill ’Em All tracks to show to everyone that there was no hatred between those two bands (just to quickly fill you in - if you don’t know that much about Megadeth’s history - Dave Mustaine was an original member with Metallica). He never really got the credit he deserved for creating the underground thrash metal sound that Metallica used to have - just listen to Kill Em All and you will instantly realise what a genius Dave Mustaine is. Anyway in short he was kicked out of the band and went on to form Megadeth.

Maybe that was too unrealistic of me to expect Metallica to join them on stage, but something special would have been nice. However there was absolutely nothing to signify this was their last UK show!

The sound was not that good from where I was standing (the main PA system just didn’t seem to be set up correctly) which added to the disappointment of watching a band I have admired just literally not caring anymore.

Dave just seemed to be a little bit distant and hardly spoke to the crowd - it was literally as if they were playing because they had to, and not because they wanted to.

I personally will always enjoy listening to Megadeths music, and having seen them play live numerous times. I can honestly say that this was not Megadeth at their best, so fingers crossed that they come back to leave on a high note rather than a sour note.
