The Clun Green Man Festival is a traditional springtime festival, held over three days on the first May Bank Holiday of the year from Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th May. The Festival takes place in the town of Clun in South Shropshire. The programme is full of live music, drama, and medieval malarkey and fun for all the family.

The festival kick-starts with Oysterband with support from Emma & the Professor with Jonathan Draper, playing live at Clun Memorial Hall on Saturday 3 May. Admission is by ticket only, £15 from the Box Office, tel. 01588 640305 and the White Horse Inn. Or there is a £25.00 combined Oysterband/Hamsters gig ticket.

On Sunday afternoon there's a Medieval Street Fair (free admission) with The Frost Queen's Battle held in the Square, with a play by the Clun Mummers, plus Morris dancing, street entertainers, jesters and unicylists, live music with Rhythm Maker and Ffonic, and market and food stalls.

In the evening there is at Hightown Community Centre "The Green Man, Grotesques, Gargoyles, Uglies and Medieval Beasties" A talk by Dr Colin Harris (tickets: £5.00). Followed at 8pm in the Memorial Hall a live show by The Hamsters, gig tickets are priced at £12.50 or there's the combined ticket offer, see above.

From noon on Monday, 7th May, a procession through the town precedes the dramatic battle between the Green Man and Dame Frostie, the Spirit of Winter, fought out on Clun Bridge. The Green Man must win if they are to have a Summer in Clun!

All being well, the Green Man then opens the May Fair on Clun Castle Meadow with craft demonstrations, strolling musicians and maypole dancing, puppet shows, story telling with Professor Panic, entertainers, circus acts, workshops and duck racing on the River Clun plus a variety of stalls and refreshments.

Throughout the afternoon the Plantagenet Historical Society will re-enact medieval life with knights in armour, squires, archers and court ladies. Medieval re-enactment including squire training, archery, and dancing. Entrance: Adult £3, Accompanied children: £1, children under 5: free.
