Caversham Festival 2012

Caversham Festival returns to Christchurch Meadows, Caversham, in Reading on Sunday 8th of July 2012.

The Caversham Festival is a free community festival that attracts 8,000 to 10,000 visitors annually showcasing local musical talent, arts, crafts and produce.

Line-up

Main Stage: RASPO, Russell's Teapot, Junkyard Scientists, Private Jet, Limpopo Groove, The 3.1419 Wonders, The Majestic.

Festival Stage: The Floydian doors, Vicars Of Twiddly, Risen Solution, Subverts, Moving On, The Movement, Party In The forest, Realise, Loose Ends, Nicki Rogers.

Floating Stage: Vienna Ditto, Dolly And The Clothes Pegs, The Secret Chords, Dead Maids, Stu Clark, Ed Keene, Dan Hughes, Emily Charlotte Haynes.

On site

As well as music there's a dedicated kids area, arts and crafts workshops, food including a farmers market selling local produce and much more.

Car boot sale

In addition to the attractions planned for this year's festivalthere's a car boot sale and antiques fair on the Sunday morning open to anyone wanting to buy or sell. The car boot and antiques fair opens at 8.30am, the festival entertainment starts at 11am and runs through until 8pm.

In 2011, after a two year hiatus, Readipop took over the running of Caversham Festival. Readipop is an arts charity that creates community projects and workshops that explore music, sound, image, technology and beyond. Now in its 13th year, the event includes 3 music stages, food, children's workshops, fairground rides, boat rides, arts and craft stalls, dance demonstrations, performance art, theatre and much more.

The festival's main aims are to promote local businesses, community groups, artists, performers and charities in Caversham. Anyone interested is highly encouraged to get in contact and submit ideas to Readipop so that they can get involved and be included. All ideas will be considered. There are already some scheduled events that fall within the festival dates, which Readipop hopes to enhance with extra arts activities. These include a Summer Fayre, put on by Thameside Primary School and a Church Fete in Caversham Court. Readipop are keen to boost the musical, local arts and cultural aspects of this event and create a strong annual showcase for Readipop's projects.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.

Festival sponsors

Festival Republic, the company behind Reading Festival, has announced that it will sponsor Caversham Festival in Reading by donating £5000 each year for the next five years. The free-to-attend event community festival is held at Christchurch Meadows on the riverside, close to the Reading Festival site and is attended by thousands of people from the local area.
