last updated : Wed 15th Oct 08 Showcasing contemporary and traditional Scottish culture, from poetry, traditional and classical music, to radical new theatre, cabaret, pop music, dance and film. This traditional celebration of the acclaimed Scottish poet, will be a special one as it will be the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns, Scotland's National Bard. This year the festival held over Ayr and Ayrshire will take place from Saturday 16th until Sunday 24th May 2009. There will be a wide range range of entertainment taking place both in town centres and in rural locations. As well as such regulars as the Mauchline Holy Fair, other events such as Rock At The Racecourse are expected. The programme has not yet been announced but is likely to include nationally acclaimed artists as well as local performers. There's a Festival Club at the Bon Vivant Spiegletent in Wellington Square from Thursday through to Sunday, which is known to feature a diverse line-up of artists, and a free lunchtime jazz show. There will be also be a continental food market, street theatre, acoustic sets at Dean Castle Courtyard, helicopter/horse drawn rides, a funfair on Low Green, drama from various theatre companies and classical music performances in old country houses.
