The Riot Jazz area at this year's eighth Kendal Calling will embrace the festival's theme 'Kendal Calling Goes To The Movies' by blasting off into outer space to 'Planet Moon Dog' on a Sci-Fi adventure quest in search of 'The Cosmic Disco'.

Organisers explain, "Riot Jazz brings an area of true escapism, it's weird and wonderful and full of hidden musical gems to discover. Be prepared to be transported out of this world!"

The sci-fi themed area has brass band Riot Jazz as artists in residence, and the hosts have hand-picked a line-up to join them in their venture into space including Walk, Gentle Mystics, Dub Jazz Sound System, Noon, The Mouse Outfit, Chains, Sam C Lees & The Family Band, Neutronics, Solko, The Templebys, Age Of Glass, Too Much Love, Tantz, Extra Love, Alligator Gumbo, House of Trees, Rich Reason, Frameworks, Gypsies of Bohemia, From a Window, The Payroll Union, Partpanda, Flavia o Faas, Thingumabob and Thingamajigs, DJ Coops, Tommy Riot, and The Riot Jazz Jam Jar Presents Soul Sessions & Shunya.

Kendal Calling is held in the Lake District, over the weekend of Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July 2013, with early entry available on Thursday. Kendal Calling returns to the Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe, in East Cumbria, and offers multiple stages and areas. The family friendly event offers 3 days of dancing, juggling, contortionists, comedy, site art and much more.

Already confirmed are Basement Jaxx, The Charlatans, & Primal Scream who headline. They top a line-up that will include Public Enemy, Seasick Steve, Johnny Marr, The D.O.T., I Am Kloot, Mystery Jets, Lightning Seeds (Acoustic), Ash, Fake Blood, British Sea Power, Mr Scruff, Foreign Beggars, Roni Size, Willy Moon, Dutch Uncles, Jackmaster, Dub Pistols, Theme Park, Public Service Broadcasting, Slamboree, and more.
