Rob Challice, director at Concert Clinic, said, "There's no denying that last year was a difficult year for independent festivals.

"This wasn't an easy decision for us but we think it's the right time to take a year off. We need the time to look at different models and fresh ideas to bring Summer Sundae back for 2014 and beyond."

Summer Sundae Weekender, has been a regular fixture on Leicester's, De Montfort Hall's summer calendar each August for over ten years. The Hall has announced major changes to its regular summer programme as part of the venue's hundredth anniversary celebrations next year.

This includes a programme of outdoor events, including plans for music, comedy and family events, that will take place in the hall's gardens over three weekends in July 2013.

Cllr Piara Singh Clair, Assistant City Mayor for heritage, leisure and sport, said, "We want to mark De Montfort Hall's hundredth year in a spectacular way. This includes an exciting programme of outdoor summer events different to anything the hall has done before. I am sure that people of all ages will want to join in these celebrations."

Starting in 2001 as a one day event, it grew to two days in 2002, and three days in 2003. It hsd been a three day festival ever since with full camping facilities and offering a civilised and relaxed atmosphere, an unwavering ethical standpoint, high production values, a quality range of food and drink, stalls, spoken word, and comedy.

Antony Flint, general manager at De Montfort Hall, added, "We are planning a fantastic programme of outdoor events as part of our centenary celebrations in July.

"People can look forward to outdoor theatre, comedy, children’s events, lots of live music and a spectacular performance to mark our 100th birthday on July 20th. We are looking forward to making announcements over the coming weeks.

"After careful consideration with Concert Clinic, we think that it's a good idea to take a break from Summer Sundae next year. It's something many popular festivals do and return stronger and fresher than ever."

eFestivals hopes that the event will return in 2014, and that this is not a Big Chill kind of year out.
