Dance pioneers and the legends who put the 'Mad' into 'Chester' - Happy Mondays have been confirmed as headliners of the North East's Wizard two day music and arts festival.

Happy Mondays
The iconic 'madchester' act with Shaun Ryder, Bez and pals are confirmed to headline the main stage on Saturday 28th August. The band, widely regarded as the instigators of the Manchester music revolution of the late 80's will be returning to the North East at the New Deer festival this summer.

Wizard Festival is yet to announce the other acts for the event's four stages of music that includes local musicians, DJ's, up and coming Scottish acts and some of the UK's top bands.

Roy Thain, festival director said, "Our festival goers are always very vocal about which bands they want to see at Wizard and The Happy Mondays have always been one of the top requests from Wizard fans so we are really pleased to have secured the band at Wizard. The number of people that attend Wizard is growing every year so we have to make sure that we provide a wide range of music acts to suit all tastes. This band will certainly get fans excited and we will be announcing some more great acts in the next few months."

The festival also runs a full children's and young people's programme that includes, drumming workshops, arts and craft classes, magicians, hip hop master classes and MC workshops.

"The wee wizards programme has grown bigger and better every year. Wizard is a great mixture of families, young people and older music fans and we have increased our music, arts and entertainment content to reflect that. We believe that Wizard is going to be even bigger this year and we are really looking forward to putting on a top class event for festival goers and music lovers from across Scotland." continued Roy.

Fully serviced camping areas are available and there is a separate quiet camping area for families with young children. There is also a designated area for caravans and campervans.

Meanwhile local acts hoping to secure a slot at Wizard and take part in one of the festival's showcase nights should e-mail bands@wizardfestival.com to register an interest in playing at the festival.

The Wizard Festival, now in its fourth year, takes place at the New Deer Show Ground near Peterhead and Fraserburgh, North East Scotland, on August bank holiday weekend and will be held on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th August 2010.

Tickets are on sale priced at £70 for an adult weekend ticket (includes camping & parking from 1pm Fri to noon Sun) or £45 for a Saturday adult day ticket (includes camping & parking Saturday only), a campervan/caravan ticket is priced at £20. Children 12 years old and under go free.
