For me this festival was the best I have been to yet. Not for the bands, or anything laid on, but it was made special by the people. Relaxed as ever everyone got themselves into the Knocky mindset (or mindless set). The weather was great for Knock with glorious sunshine on the Sunday and there was little mud. It was a party atmosphere throughout the festival, made all the better for low numbers. I was informed the max they had was 2500, but by Sunday they must have lost a 1000 of them.

May Knock remain the festival for festival goers, hardcore to the end..

NEWS! for anyone who doesn't know yet - September Knockengorroch is BACK ON. It's being relaunched as 'The Doonhame Hairth - a tremendous 5 day party in the hills'. 16-20 September.

Line-up includes Peatbog Fairies, 3 Daft Monkeys, Bombskare, Tofu Love Frogs, Latin Dub Sound System, Tiger Style and plenty more.

One of the very few independent festivals left...

Yes it will... with great improvements in store for the attached Acoustic Tent too: there'll be a real wood stove, custom built for this festival by double-bass-James, complete with a couple of wood-pixies to keep it stoked and safe through the night; mugs of home-made soup for the peckish wee hours; and new improved LED lighting...

The Wierdstring Band will be there too, along with various accomplices, keeping the sessions tuneful and entertaining us with their very special blend of musical wit, tomfoolery and genius :D

The friendliest festival of them all. Around site people are constantly introducing themselves to each other, shaking hands, having a blether, looking out for each other, passing around the whisky and ale and mead, borrowing and lending tools, telling jokes, being creative, working and playing together. Musicians striking up random tunes, non-musical types launching into spontaneous banter. This year, unusually, the skies were mostly clear: incredible golden-blue days encouraged bathing in the River Deugh; awesome star-strewn nights, cold and crisp, were perfect for huddling around campfires with old and new-found friends. This is a festival that feeds the soul. The amply stocked Free Shop ("shoplifters will not be prosecuted") and the Wierdstring Band's birthday tribute (with candle-lit cake presented on stage) were a couple of the simply lovely things that made my heart sing.

Sadly, this was probably the last Hairth (aka Autumn Knock). The energy and resources required to put on two festivals a year are mammoth... so after 10 years the Knockengorroch family have decided to give themselves a break and concentrate on the World Ceilidh that happens every May on the same magical site. Yes, they were toying with the idea of stopping the Hairth last year then pulled out the stops for one last party... but this time I think they really mean it. Those of us who love the way Knock 'bookends' the season will be disappointed... but I understand the logic. The May festival is always busier and usually warmer; while being just as friendly, it is embued with the fresh energy of the Season's beginning. In 2010 it will probably be better than ever. Dates are May 27-30 (late May bank holiday weekend). Put it in your diaries now!

Knock was again a pleasure to be at, the troubles beforehand faded away as people started to arrive. The attendance was small even for a Hairth but it made it more friendly and intermate. Some fantastic art happened and Tash's burrning Phoenix was a suitable end to a fantastic 5 days in the Glen of Deugh.

As the Pheonix rises from the ashes so will the World Ceildh in May bigger and better.

Thanks to Simon and Liz and all involved with the Hairth over the years. See you in may.
