Another huge downgrade, can’t wait for the new arena.  Hopefully will not only sound better but should draw in some of the slightly bigger acts who are giving Cardiff a miss at the moment

Except that the new Cardiff Arena is going to be in competition with the new, slighter bigger, Bristol arena.

Can't imagine acts will do both - too close together - and why come to Cardiff when you can save the miles by doing Bristol?

Tbh though, even though they're both quoting 2028, Cardiff does seem by far the more likely of the two to actually get built first - they've got the money in place, the contracts signed, and suitable experience on the project. Everything I've seen from Bristol makes it appear that they're a lot further behind in the process and out of their depth.

It's not really a downgrade though is it, they weren't announced for the Castle.

They were in my head 😀 and a poster had said maybe castle before CIA was announced.  Furries in Castle = Show me magic.

Further context is It was also following the predicted Cure blackweir announcement being Teddy Swims where someone else commented that was a downgrade 😀

The Cure have a Wales announcement soon.  From their newsletter.

Judging by their other locations you'd think Blackweir - not sure why it wouldn't be announced alongside the others though?

It is -->  Cardiff Bay arena gets go ahead with 2028 opening date - BBC News

Been years in the making and taken a few knocks but finally happening.

Very good.

Though wonder if this might lead to behind-the-scenes competition between Bristol and Cardiff for acts as you can imagine a lot will be picking one or the other... if Bristol ever actually finishes that is.

Maybe already stated with Bristol increasing their capacity.  Opens things up massively for me as really can’t abide the sound in the current arena so rarely watch anything there.

Given Robert Smith’s principles wondering if the presence of the garden area is the sticking point?

Suspect this year's issues have put the band off and they want guarantees that is above board.

Personally, I'd rather they did 2 or 3 dates at Cardiff Castle instead. Or maybe even Swansea.com - although every gig I have seen there has been below average.

Last year's events at Blackweir had no planning permission and the "change of use" for the parkland overran by 9 days.

The council investigated, found a technical breach, but chose not to take enforcement action as the site was restored and no lasting harm was identified.

My view is common sense prevailed and hopefully the cure aren’tt hung up on this.

    • So, what would the weather have been like at this year's festival?   It's been shambolic around here, the rain is soul destroying and showing no sign of letting up, bar odd sporadic days here and there. Disgraceful for June.   What's it like down there? Have we had a lucky escape?...

    • belated thanks for this ended up going, was a good evening and a great venue with a cracking beer selection (give the festival a few tips on that). Never been in before despite reasonably local.       Main takeaways from the film (as someone who didnt go for much later). The festival has changes a lot since then apart from the Green Fields that looked the exact same.  Me and my mate both agreed that Shambala is today than Glastonbury.   Cool piece of merch aswell.
