Calvin Harris

Think it's about time we started seriously discussing Calvin Harris as a Glastonbury headliner. 2027 would be the 20th anniversary of the debut album I Created Disco which includes hit songs The Girls and Acceptable in the 80s and he's released a score of hit songs since then. He could bring out a large variety of special guests from Rihanna and Drake to Ellie Goulding and Example and Tinie Tempah. It would be a perfect fit for a party atmosphere on the Friday night gig and with his back catalogue it would be all bangers and no clangers even if it was a 2hr set. He's played small stages at Glastonbury in the past but his rightful place is as a pyramid headliner so give him the shot.

Just to illustrate how stacked his set list could be here's one I mocked up:

  1. Merrymaking At My Place (appearance by special guests in a house on stage)
  2. Acceptable in the 80s
  3. The Girls
  4. Ready For The Weekend
  5. Love Souvenir
  6. We Found Love (with Rihanna)
  7. How Deep Is Your Love
  8. Potion (with Dua Lipa)
  9. One Kiss (with Drake)
  10. This Is What You Came For
  11. Blame (with John Newman)
  12. By Your Side (with Tom Grennan)
  13. Feels So Close
  14. You Used to Hold Me
  15. I Need Your Love (with Ellie Goulding)
  16. Blessings (with Clementine Douglas)
  17. Miracle (with Ellie Goulding)
  18. Drinking From The Bottle (with Tinie Tempah)
  19. Stay With Me (with Justin Timberlake, Halsey and Pharrel Williams)
  20. We'll Be Coming Back (with Example)

Encore

  1. Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (with Fatboy Slim)
  2. Dance Wiv Me (with Dizzee Rascal)
  3. Lovers in A Past Life (with Rag N Bone Man)
  4. My Way

Is that supposed to prove the case for him?

That's no way to speak about one of the greatest artists of the 21st Century. It would absolutely pop off as a Friday night headliner.

When you post a setlist of one of the greatest artists of the 21st century then this comment is valid.

I just did. He's head and shoulders above Fred Again who was rumoured to headline this year.

No, it proves a case for Glastonbury.

lol Fred Again is multi talented, he doesnt just dj, he plays multiple instruments and sings. Calvin has no history to the festival, doesn't attend as a punter and after he performed at Arcadia last time he didn't post anything about it and apparently wasn't happy. It won't happen, at best Other Stage but can't see it

Nor does Calvin Harris. He's a singer, songwriter and a producer for starters. Okay he doesn't play instruments live but that doesn't mean he wouldn't put on a fantastic show. He played the festival in exchange for free tickets so obviously likes it a lot, I think he'd be over the moon to be offered a headline slot.

im sure he would be. I love my dance music too, i would love to see many a dj get a go at the pyramid but il be surprised if it will ever happen. For me that is what i go to dance festivals for. I wouldve loved the prodigy to have done the pyramid, but i also know it wouldnt have been as good on that stage so i am glad they didnt

The Prodigy are a heritage band at this point, there's no comparison between them and someone still at the top of their game in Calvin Harris - he'd play the pyramid and he'd smash it out the park.

There are lots of acts that are massive but just doesn’t tick the Pyramid headline vibe.

as others have said. He played Arcadia, didn’t really like it and no one remembers it. It’s not the best lead up to a classic headlining set.

he’s also widely loathed. Yes Ed Sherman is but this is a different type of hatred

Has he really got an album called I created Disco? That alone should warrant a lifetime ban

Yes, it's his debut album from 2007 there's a track of the same name as well. Don't see why it would warrant a lifetime ban.

While there's no single inventor, individuals like Giorgio Moroder are recognized for their pioneering contributions to the genre, with Moroder being dubbed the "Father of Disco" for his role in Euro disco and electronic dance music. DJs like Frankie Knuckles, who worked in Chicago, also played a vital role in shaping the sound and culture of disco.

    • When does the Thursday lineup get announced? I see they had Moonchild Sanelly and Young Knives last year, would be cool to get something along those lines again.
    • Where did you see this?
    • No idea how it'll work in a festival setting but really enjoying Prewn at the moment.
    • Lineup announced, with the dates having been pushed back to 12th and 13th September. Tickets on sale tomorrow 8:30am.   12th September Chaka Khan Jack Savoretti Lulu Emeli Sande Texas ABC The Script   13th September Simple Minds Deacon Blue Level 42 Appleton Blue James Blunt Cast   I think it’s a pretty weak lineup compared to previous years to be honest - and think it’s quite lazy they’ve gone down the Scottish route so much (not sure Simple Minds would be classed as a headliner elsewhere in the UK).
