The “missing Banksy pieces ”

Back in the late 90’s I along with a few mates used to paint the long drops pre festival. Would just cover them in green paint, rats and all.

 

I wonder how many Banksy pieces we destroyed.

Many I reckon! It was the first place I heard about him and his art.

 

Glastonbury in general, not the long drops.

Has he done any at the most recent festivals? The last one I remember seeing was the sheep truck driving around. That probably wouldn't be allowed now because of health and safety.

The migrant boat at idles ? Of course the sheep truck would be allowed

I think @CharlotteB meant because of vehicle movements on site, which are now more limited -e.g. milky milky truck no longer allowed.  Procession/carnival vehicles are still allowed but only in certain areas and have a heavy steward presence surrounding them, like the carnival in T&C fields.

Was there any confirmation that the prints were by Banksy?  I got the impression they were by other artists / possibly affiliated with the visual side of Shangri-la.

I don't think Banksy has ever confirmed any involvement in Terminal 1 but I think there's little doubt about it, especially as he was active at the festival this year.  

 

People still selling them as Banksy on ebay

 

I think they were £15 each and selling for hundreds... chancers everywhere! 😞

haha fair! good luck for that pay day though, maybe it will be confirmed in 2025 if Terminal 1 re-appears. 

 

I imagine the whole Terminal 1 structure would be worth a fortune if his involvement was confirmed, but it's currently laying dismantled on the farm 🙂

I took this photo in 2008 - on a wall in Glastonbury (nr the Riflemans). I looked for it last year and couldn't see it.

 Yep, definately still doable.  As you say, stewarding makes this kind of vehicle movement fine.

 

A good mate of mine, who's core crew, was actually  roped into being one of the farmer blokes walking ahead of the Banksy  lorry. He's the one who's six foot six with a big stick. Perfect casting, probably eliminating the requirements of any additional stewards 😁

1995, first year that there was a dance tent provided by a Bristol posse. Banksy painted a big thing on a wall made of eight or ten sheets of ply. It was wet at the dance tent at the end of the festival, the tent being at the bottom of the valley. There was mud.

 

A mate of mine , who is often with me at the festival, along with various others tore the wall down and laid it on the ground to make a road. Initially to use as a track to roll PA gear out of the tent and then to drive over in their vehicles to exit the field.....

Yup that's been gone for a while now.  Nothing to say it was Banksy though.... there's a lot of pretenders round these 'ere parts.
