Potential Covid Cancellations

As it entered the weather thread….It appears we’re in another wave according to the BBC. Manics just cancelled a gig here for Sunday as JDB got covid. What’s going to happen if a load of names start pulling out due to the ‘vid last minute. Nightmare never ends. Seems a fair chance 🤷‍♂️

Pfttt Covid has taken enough already... It can do one as far as I'm concerned...

Plus, looking at the actual numbers behind the headlines, there's no conclusive proof that this is another wave yet, it could be, but it could also just be an anomaly.  Figures slightly up on the previous week is all.

But you know, papers gotta sell papers, and fear sells...

It still makes some people I’ll and that will impact the festival … like it or not … if it can do one or not it’s still a reality … some bands will likely pull out …

How do they even know? No one is testing.

Yes, they probably will... Acts pull out of performances all the time, sore throats, colds, flu, etc...

It can still do one, I'm not pulling out and I'm not going to let the fear mongering MSM worry me either. Glastonbury 2022 is going to be amazing. 🙂

I have no idea. I guess some people are buying tests, or have tests remaining.

I tested daily for what must have been over a year. If testing isn't important enough anymore to offer for free, then I won't be testing, I know that. When I had covid I was one of the lucky ones who had no symptoms, and that was during the most dangerous wave. I've since had 3 jabs.

If you feel poorly and take a test - ONS say 1in70 still got it and on the rise. By my calc that’s about 3000 people on site with the ‘vid at that rate

I calculated similar in the 'testing' thread a few weeks back. It's going to be unavoidable. Either we need to accept that, take our chances, get on with our lives and enjoy ourselves. Or we take precautions, and possibly consider if we should be visiting a festival at all. It's our choice, I know which I'm choosing.

I’m with you. But if a load of acts/crew cancel it’ll be turd

There have been A LOT of cancellations during Primavera in the last week or so, hopefully we don't get the same!

Just googled it - what a car crash. Looks like most punters came home with it. Might make sense to mask up weds-Fri at Glasto to avoid having it there. Better to have once home

Don't (regular / surgical) masks, for the most part, prevent you passing it on, rather than catching it? They only really make sense if most people are wearing them.

Unless of course you're going to wear an FFP3 mask. They're not the most comfortable thing to wear all day, but they offer far greater protection for the wearer.

I have it now - I think it’s the first time I’ve had it as well. I was expecting something more cold like, but it has hit me harder than I was expecting. I’m 3 and a bit days into it.. definitely worth taking extra care in the lead up to the festival - I’m not sure I could do it feeling like this, so I’m glad I have it now.

Was just going to say this. We lost Bikini Kill to Covid, which was gutting, and The Strokes pulled out of the first weekend. I'd be amazed if Glastonbury doesn't lose one or two.

Get well soon! Knocked us for six when we had it too back in March.

Have tested today and I seem to be one of the lucky few not bringing it back from Primavera.

Holly Humberstone pulled out too... hopefully puts her in the clear for glasto. 🙂

There’s going to be plenty of acts waiting in the wings who could step in with minimal notice.

Acts can be moved up and down the order as needed.

Even potential for replacement headliners and legend slot if needed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kate Bush made an appearance seeing as she’s back in the charts and touring again.

If names start pulling out they'll either bump people up the order and/or backfill with acts they've already got on standby to come in at the last minute (my theory of why Melvin from festival Republic was brought on board, to help get access).

That's it, mild inconvenience for attendees who have to rejigging schedules, bad for the acts who feel ill but there won't be anything worse than that.

Based on the huge number of infections in the spring wave I'd say that statistically we will have a large cohort with resistance.  I reckon as a broad rule of thumb you could consider yourself unlikely to be reinfected if you've had it since Jan 1st or booster since April 1st.

The illness itself is no longer the threat it was 2 years ago, most of us have some level of resistance thanks to vaccines and infection.  I expect many of us will come back with a rough throat and a few aches, but that's as likely to be from singing, laughing and walking as the rona.
