Bars

Hopefully the bars wont be a ripoff having had 2 years off, the festival is all very socialist etc until someone has the opportunity to serve you up a cup of beer and wants £6 for it!

I do wonder, as possibly the only festival left that lets you bring in however much booze you want and walk around with it sans restrictions, why anyone bothers with the normal bars. A few Brothers ciders aren't too bad, but i bet they are no longer on offer anymore either.

I think £5.50 probably £6 will be standard in most places

As time's gone on, I've opted to use the bars rather than take loads of my own. Even this year - getting my stuff taken in a camper, I'll still only take a few small crates - mainly for the Tuesday and the very busy stages.

I just treat it like a holiday to be honest and expect to spend a bit. Drinking warm cans by Friday is not appealing in the slightest. If you're into your spirits it isn't too bad, I refer to just drink beer personally though.

My beers are always cold in the morning if left in the right spot in the tent. Even as the day goes on, i would rather drink a lukewarm £1 strong beer than a £6 slightly cold, slightly flat pint of Carlsberg.

Yeah it's personal preference, nice to have the option either way!

Was it Carlsberg last time? Can't remember

It's relative as well. Unfortunately, I'm used to paying £5+ for a pint, it's the norm in these parts now. Wouldn't expect to be paying less at Glastonbury

That price is par for the course for most of the places I go to in London.

The thing I don't like is obscene queues or them running out of anything decent.

Pretty sure it was Carlsberg. 3.8% 😐

If you find yourself drinking Carling at a festival, you only have yourself to blame given the other offerings available. Have a mooch..loads of better offerings.

I carry a 5 pint cider bottle in day sack and fill it up when in proximity of bimble Inn / cider bus / cask ale gaff.  It's a breeze and means several hours of hassle free top ups.

I dont drink Carling at a festival. Or Carlsberg. Although actually they would be better than the flat cloudy crap cider that people think is great, because they are at a festival in the West Country.

By this argument do you never go to the pub because it’s cheaper to drink cans at home?

id also be delighted at £6 a pint cheaper then I expect it will be and I just treat this as a holiday (but appreciate I’m lucky enough not to worry much about my spend ) I won’t however be touching Carlsberg, I’ll stay on the tel ales with the odd breakfast cider sugar rush

It's a habit built up over last several visits. Stay in Glastonbury town Monday night.  Buy one of those LARGE cIder bottles from local farm. Drink that Tuesday (first day on site) then just keep topping up in day sack when you find the right beer at the right price in some festival outpost .

Nah, i go to the pub most evenings, and i live in London too. But i find pubs that are good value, without resorting to Spoons if i can. A pint of San Miguel in my local is £3.80 for example.

But Glastonbury could easily put a stipulation on the concessions who they awards the bars to, to not charge more than say £4.50, but they dont. I can just about see past that since they allow unlimited booze into the festival, but if people just accept it and say "oh well, its like a holiday"  then they are encouraging rampant capitalism, something i thought most attendees stood firmly against.

If you can get a pint for less than £6 I’ll be surprised!

And it won’t be because the bars are trying to rip you off.

As a publican myself, the amount and size of brewery price increases we’ve been subjected to lately has been unprecedented in my time. And we’re a free house!!!

Prices just went up 30p to 50p per pint across the board!!! The biggest single increase I’ve ever seen. That’s on top of last years increases.

As mentioned, we’re a free house, in the midlands, and our cheapest pint (Carling) is now £3.80!!! All the way up to £5.60 for the dearest. And we’re fairly cheap for our area (exc Spoons and greene king managed houses of course!) Hate to see what London prices are like now!

My local in Zone 3 London does a pint of Carlsberg for £2.60, and my usual is San Miguel at £3.80. Its part of small Pub Co (Red Cat), but if they can shift beer that cheap and stay in business, i do wonder why others cant- especially outside of London.

Thanks I won’t, said my piece, nothing more to add!!!

We’ll be taking some cans, and we’ll be buying from the bars, a good mix of both. Expecting to pay between £6-£7 for a ‘decent’ pint. But will just go with whatever. I was paying £7 per pint at some football grounds in 2018!!!
