Day Bag recommendations..

Its ridiculous...and its got worse as the years have gone on - now we've got gangs of 'lads' with bumbags round their chest wearing a football shirt from the mid-90s.

Are there ever big queues for the lockups?

I'm camping up in the campervan field so it's a real trek (and waste of time) to go back during the day. I'm therefore thinking I'll make use of the lockups more this year.  I'll probably take my old Eastpak Pakr and carry it round during the day with a few beers etc, and drop it off at the lockup near Gate C when I've had enough of carrying it or I want to go into the crowd for a band.

Always been fine for queues in my experience.

Great idea yep. Only took me 5 years to realise this when I was still vanning it.

No theres barely ever a queue. Leave your evening stuff (inc booze) in the lockup too if you want and just swap the day stuff to night stuff.

My £2.50 bag lasted me ~20 festivals. I then bought the same one again, which has now done at least 7 and counting.

My rucksack is a Thule Versant which has a top lid that converts into a day pack. It's a good size and saves me bringing a separate day pack.

Also taking out a load of cash and keeping it in your wallet in the lockups means you can grab more as and when you need it rather than having to find ATMs that have cash and no queue.

i believe this is a current fashion trend called Blokecore, fellas wearing slightly obscure retro football shirts with jeans and adidas trainers.  This does seem to be a good 50% of the crowd at football matches anyways and has been for years now, who knew that old replica Ireland away top from USA 94 would be so in demand nowadays? (if it still fits 😄 mine um, sort of does)

A lot of this depends on your approach to the day innit, everyone will be a little different.

For us once we’ve left the tent in the morning we avoid going back until bedtime unless it’s absolutely necessary. It’s generally an inconvenience and if you’re not careful you can end up back there for ages missing out on valuable fun time. Lock ups are definitely really useful in keeping stuff safe and avoiding tent trips, but again if you need something and the lock up is across the site it’s annoying.

Our standard plan is to check the weather for the day and then take the bare minimum stuff we might need to see us through until dawn. Mostly works out well, although of course there are exceptions particularly when the weather is variable 🙂

I'm now unfortunately one of these people😂 guilty as charged. but i can't lie, the bumbag round the chest is extremely convenient and practical for your wallet, keys and phone etc. 

 

edit: unsure i'll get away with a couple of retro Millwall football shirts on site so they might well stay at home 😅

Exactly. I don’t like to overplan my day and just see what happens. It’s good to have a few essentials on you so you don’t have to take the trek back to the tent especially if you’re camped at the other end of the site.

About 5 years back at the stone circle on the Wednesday night I saw a group of full on clichéd hipsters with immaculately manicured beards sat grilling various meats on an actual BBQ they'd brought along and carried up there. Looked like way too much effort, on many levels.

They were gazing about seeming a bit bemused that about 20,000 people had turned up in their BBQ field to watch fireworks.

Mine is this, which I think is a bit cheaper than yours, but has a baby rucksack on the front (40L + 15L apparently).  Can be very useful and yet easy to take the lot when walking, flights, public transport.

My reasons are that 20 litres is about the right size for me (carrying 4-5 cans of cider, my coat (because it will be hot and dry all week), plus the other essentials like hat, sunscreen, toilet paper, etc., and that it has a chest strap. One thing which always annoys me with backpacks is how the straps keep sliding off my shoulders, but also it means that I can hook my chair/stool  carrying strap in the chest strap and keep it in place.

Forced to have no bag once at a festival, a4 bag rule. So bunged everything in pockets, fleece around waste. The freedom of not having a bag is a total game changer. Try it and you'll never go back to lugging a bag.

I bought this 20L rucksack the other week for £9.99 from Decathlon as I needed a new day bag. (For the bag moaners, I leave my tent around 10am, I'm too lazy to go back and forward queuing at lock ups and won't get back to my tent, which is far away from everything, until about 2am). I like to have all bases covered. Plus, it's useful incase I buy anything. Anyway, I'm very happy with it!
