I am still pro flags and ideally would limit them somehow.. like height or size, but implementing this does not seem realistic so it’s either ban or allow all. 😞

Mich1268
Absolutely loath selfish flag holders. Couldn't see the screens or stage because of them. Wouldn't care if they were up between bands so people can find people but once the music starts, please put the bloody things down and stop wanting to be spotted on TV. I pay good money to watch the bands not look at utterly shit flags.
moogster
For small thingies on polls. A small neon sign. That kind of things. Flags only in campgrounds.

roughbloke
The best flag this weekend. I love the flags. Not glasto without the flags. 1

I thought that about five years ago when it started to become an issue. We've seen the BBC attempt numerous ways around it, including the massive cherry picker crane they used one year for wide shots, but nothing has ever worked great. I can't believe at this point they've not had that conversation with the festival so the festival must have refused to budge. I don't come down on one side or other of the debate: they do block views, and they do look cool. How much one versus the others matters to anyone is down to the individual (and often their height). But I realised how little of a clue the flag wavers must have when someone had one with a big photo of their friend and an "in memoriam" message on it. It's a lovely idea, but if you had any concept at all how much the flags wound some people up, it's something you would never do. The idea that someone might be looking at a big photo of my dead mate and getting pissed off at it would properly chill me.
Helsbels
I love the flags at Glasto. They are definitely a big part of the atmosphere. If O can't see the stage I watch on the screen. No biggie
Traco
At Macca even the camera from the sound stage couldn't get line of site. They kept switching back to the one on the crane at the rear and that was shaky. That just left the few in the immendiate vicinity of the stage. Not sure what was broadcast so will be interesting to see but if it did have an impact on the live transmission there may be a reaction. lukemack
I don't think you could ever really ban them, too hard to police and they are part of what makes glasto, glasto. The festival could 'ask' that people don't bring them into the front pits of the Pyramid and Other Staves, would make the view down the field better for thousands of people and then millions at homs

Banning just in front of stages would be trickier.

maelzoid
Yes, I think it's time to ban flags from the pit. When they started, there was some novelty and they did look good, but every year there are more and more and it is now to the point where essentially there is a curtain across the stage for all but those down the very front. As you go up the hill, you look down on the stage and so cannot look under the flags. I don't come to an event to watch screens. I want to feel like I have seen the artist with my own eyes, even if they are far away. At this point it has also become a bit of a tiresome cliche. No one will ever top the Ainsley flag so why bother any more? Let's all just move on from it. I don't know about policing it, but if they asked people to not wave flags when the acts are on, that would certainly reduce it, and in time it would die out. CaledonianGonzo
I'm less mardy about it than some others but three flags on one pole really is a dick move.
Bennykill
Not sure how anyone can say this this creates an atmosphere, it is only a recent thing in Glastonbury history and it is getting worse than ever. it is just pointless and horrible. Plus if you have more than one flag on a pole you are an awful human being and shouldn't be allowed to be around others. I do have an alien on a flag pole that I use but it is small and I am always quite far back and always put it down when all of the group are near Edited June 28 by Bennykill

brettredmayne
Loads of times during McCartney I had zero idea of anything as it blocked the screens, I’m fine with them but maybe none in the front section of pyramid

Ayrshire Chris
This was the first year it annoyed me, yes it looks very atmospheric but they totally blocked the view of the screens during the busier gigs, especially Macca. TheBBC can’t be happy. Halfway down the pyramid field and I only got intermittent views of him. Sorry ,but the flag bearers need to realise they are spoiling the experience for the thousands standing towards the back.
The Nal
I think they add to the atmosphere. Quite unique. Although Sally from the Co-Op annoyed me on Friday in the pit.
SouthbanKen
I like the flags - i can understand why people don't and i agree that some are far too big / low / many per flag pole - but i do feel it adds to the feel of the place.
PassingCloud
Don’t like ‘em. Some funny ones but a lot are clearly in-jokes that 50,000 other couldn’t give a flying fuck about. Please put your flag up for a few mins and then put it away. Edited June 28 by PassingCloud
