Hutchmaster
Based purely on their Instagram caption from last week which ended with "roll on 2022", it looks like APE will be returning next year. What's the early hopes and predictions? I'm guessing, all things being well with the world, we'll go back to an end of May line up; would people be happy with that or did people prefer it over the August bank holiday weekend? foolee
I think Tame Impala are a shoe in. I could also see Gorillaz, Lorde, Nick Cave, Massive Attack doing days. And days I’d love and have an outside chance are Nine Inch Nails and Avenged Sevenfold. NIN are apparently an exclusive to Hellfest which is a shame if true and I can’t help that Avenged Sevenfold are in Europe next summer with no Download to headline so they’ve got to have some sort of UK summer shows so this is an option but probably too heavy for APE. End of May would be better for me personally because the end of August is usually a bit congested and it’s good to have the option of Primavera and early summer American acts being over. The Crimson King
My money is on it staying in August. This year worked much better for them regardless of any lockdown exit bounce.
RaphPH
Although the two x weekends of Primavera have what I would deem to be 90% of the likely lineup for APE..It may be easier for them to do May/June So far, Nick Cave has announced Europe but no UK dates. Hugh Jass
If Arcade Fire are back by then they must be in with a shout?
jannybruck
Nick Cave, Tame Impala, Gorillaz and also Robyn look like decent bets to me, based on who's knocking around so far.
Dales
I think that the double bank holiday on Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June will be very tempting from a ticket selling point of view and so for at least 2022, I would expect them to move to that weekend and have events for 4 days at least over that extended weekend. It will be interesting to see how many days they have overall. I agree that Tame Impala seem a good shout and I would expect some sort of indie day potentially headlined by some one like the Wombats, Two Door etc. An Underworld, Kwaftwork sort of day would be nice. So would a day with the likes of The Jesus & Mary Chain & My Bloody Valentine. Without knowing the dates its hard to work out who might be around. Hutchmaster
I'm backing a Wolf Alice day with a strong undercard to help prop it up, maybe with a paired "co-headliner" ala the Foals/BBC day this year?
Dancers Stand Very Still
I second what Dales said about the Thursday and Friday BH weekend in June. That and the Saturday and Sunday before (to make 6 days with no standard working days), and also to catch the Primavera acts surely makes more sense than a crowded August BH? Guy Honeymoon
I was thinking it might be held in May again. Tame Impala and Massive Attack were both lined up to headline in 2020 and they are both playing Primavera around the time. Kraftwerk are playing in Germany next May and Iggy Pop has a European tour around that time with no UK date and a gap at the end of May. They could both be back for APE after being lined up to play in 2020. Also having it in May would mean that many bands playing Primavera would be on tour around that time, Gorillaz, Lorde and Nick Cave would all be decent headliners. lessthanwill1
Is Lorde less likely given the Roundhouse dates?
SalviaPlath
Is Lorde enough of a draw to headline? Her last arena tour here sold poorly and when I saw her at APE she topped a respectably attended but not rammed second stage.
jannybruck
She wouldn't headline but I could imagine a Foals/BBC type co-headline situation with someone like Robyn or Lizzo.
Hutchmaster
Hasn't Lorde got like 4 dates in London in June? Surely that rules her out completely...
RaphPH
Lorde is playing 3 nights at Roundhouse and one huge night at Ally Pally - I doubt she'll play APE
jannybruck
I dunno, I think post-pandemic all bets are off really. They booked London Grammar, Foals, etc despite them all having considerably large London gigs already announced within the same six months (in the case of London Grammar, 20k tickets sold before they'd even sold a single All Points East ticket). If the fee's right and there's another large name to bolster that day's lineup, it's not impossible.
The Crimson King
100% agree with the Nick Cave return, but that is just as likely to happen in August with his current schedule of shows. August makes more sense, no exams for teenagers or Uni students and this years line up was aimed largely at younger people. (Certainly the undercards) Could see Little Simz being promoted to co-headliner after the crowd she drew before her album release this year. She’s also getting a bunch of 5 star reviews for her shows. Massive Attack probably a good bet, Fontaine’s DC and Sam Fender up there as well. The XX? They have a strong relationship with the site and are probably due a full band show. Let’s throw in a Klaxons reunion to the North Stage for good measure… 🙂 Suspect that Nine Inch Nails is a no. xxialac
Just now, gfa said: did they confirm two weekends? Would be weird if they didn't, seeing as they previously had a license for two weekends and it would double their revenue.

foolee
Assuming it must have sold better. Strange with all the acts at Primavera that there won’t be a May festival for a lot of those acts to play.
dentalplan
I think the success of this year with smaller acts and a more millennial-focused bill will have some effect on next year. I could still see Nick Cave getting the gig because he's a proven seller but wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bother rebooking Kraftwerk or Massive Attack and pushed some coheadliners like Wolf Alice and The Wombats, Run The Jewels and Idles, etc.
RaphPH
Let’s be honest. This year was successful with that lineup because we were starved of anything and would have taken anything.
