You seemed to be happy with restrictions throughout which actually did say fuck em to some of those people on the list in favour of covid patients.

You aren't bright enough to work that out sadly.  Plenty of people missed chemo etc.

lockdown was to help nhs cope with covid + other patients. In the end because so late to lockdown we had to de-prioritise some non covid stuff which is why such a backlog now. But, maybe lockdowns don't work and maybe covid patients need to man the fuck up and maybe we should leave older people home to rot etc.

Or maybe the modeling was wrong and the NHS might of coped without restrictions and children didn't have to lose parents to cancer while we saved a few extra old people ?

Just a maybe...  maybe we should give it some thought

gave it some thought. The parent/children thing is very sad, very emotive, good effort, but at same time lockdown was there to help NHS save cancer patients and covid patients. So, we had restrictions to our liberties to help health services cope with all the covid patients and still try and save cancer patients. It's a fucking nightmare of a choice, but I was willing to make a few sacrifices if helped. Thought over.

And this is how you learn lessons if you are an idiot.  Well done Steve

Cut your bullshit out Barry … I’m no happier with lockdown than anyone else … I had to shield for the first 6 months of this fucking thing … I found ways of dealing with things in my own way … I barely saw a soul , including my parents that lived a short drive away , I could have formed a bubble with them … but I didn’t … the lockdown was to enable the nhs to function for all those other things and precisely why I wasn’t going to be a burden on it . Oh You we’rent around from the start where we all supported each other on that thread and talked through our personal battles … remember Barry that you aren’t always right !!! So stop being so self righteous just for once yeah ?

You didn't have to shield.  You made a sensible choice to shield.  Key difference...  you know just cutting the shit out and all...

It's what we should of done mor off.  The weak should of stay home while the strong fuelled the economy

flu doesn't kill 100s of thousands...I mean it did in 1918, but not these days, not yet anyway.

Slight issue here is the covid act changed the way we record deaths so you can’t really compare. In the past say you had lung cancer which reduced your lung capacity you then caught flu and your lungs packed in that would go down as a cancer death, if the same thing happens with covid it goes down as a covid death.

That’s why it’s better to use excess deaths but even that is more complicated as areas of Australia that had few covid cases saw excess deaths rise during lockdown and so some of those deaths are clearly due to lockdown.

Flu deaths past five years, including the really bad year of 2017/8.

Take out that year and the average is well under 10k per year.

In terms of shielding, was it 6 months of housebound or did it change? I can’t even remember what the generic rules were to be honest.

With hindsight I think we can certainly say a lot of the early restrictions were overkill. Especially that crap about only going out once a day for a max of 30 mins… obscene.

Re the last couple of days figures:

Are they not always lower on a Sunday and Monday due to reporting lag and that's always been the case? Why is so much store being put by these?

Is down on last week's numbers for the same days. So the reporting lag doesn't apply.

Flu every year since I was born.

Add in examples where NHS resources are rationed  as well.  Plenty of people have been left to die.  Its just you haven't given a shit until covid arrived

What  300,000 die in a year in the UK of flu. Once again Fuzzy's quote

Nice one, love it

On the question on who would have been happy to see die in your own family.  Its obviously a ridiculous question as no one is going go serve up a loved one.  But if the question if I would of accepted a riskier existence for my own gran to avoid lockdowns then yes I would of done.  The idea lockdowns save lives has always been on weak ground.

Now one of yours. And was wondering about this. If say the virus was just killing kids do you feel that you would have felt the same?

Just wondering is all
