As per zahidf’s post above:

Guess that’s the beginning of the end of the pandemic in the UK then, as this will probably soon be followed by a reduction in the availability of PCR tests, and then it’s a case of cracking on with it without obsessing over daily figures.
Guess a lot of countries will be watching closely and following suit, but it’s certainly time we looked to move to this stage.

Does this change essentially remove the legal need for isolation? Its like self reporting for the covid pass on steroids - morally right to do it properly but huge amounts won't, meaning essentially its a step towards living with covid without constant testing. Whether intentional or not you can never say with this lot 😂

I guess some people’s attitudes will move from testing when ill and having to deal with the moral dilemma of whether they need to isolate and cancel plans etc, to just not bother testing anymore if they feel ill, and carrying on as normal as we used to do.
e.g. if you felt rough a few days before Glastonbury in June, would you really want to know if you had covid? And if you did, would you really give up your ticket last minute and not go? Hmmm.

The more I think about it the more I think if you're bothering to test then you'll probably register it. Might make a few asymptomatic people think twice though

The biggest thing is not being able to get hold of the tests. Will that just stop people doing things or will they carry on and gain confidence from not testing all the time? Gigs seem to be off for the time being but people are encouraged to take them before the likes of football, and any socialising really. Will be interesting to see what happens when that safety blanket is removed

This too! Makes a lot of sense. And if you test positive without symptoms...

Yep, it’s just not going to happen is it. I think this is a measured and calculated move from the government to essential put an end the pandemic in the UK, by knowing how people are going to act. I think it will probably prove successful and other countries will follow suit.

Asking people to test on the way back into the UK now is like asking someone to check their shoes for poop before they step on a poop stained carpet. If other countries would like UK travellers to test before entering, I totally understand... but the UK keeping this rule is a bit of an own goal with regards to our travel industry.

Yep needs to be done slowly or people will turn on them for doing nothing and letting people die. Hopefully normality by summer

There is already a sorta get out on testing as you goto the testing site and it lists the alpha/beta symptoms of a continuous cough/high temp/ loss of taste.

As far as I can tell Omi-Cold doesn't have these symptoms. There must be loads of people giving up on the first page currently.
