Some people will, some people won't...some are already restricting their social contacts and many businesses are already closing for christmas.

Most people restricting their social contacts at the moment are doing so in order that they can see family / friends at Christmas not because of following the stealth restrictions from the government or fearful of the virus.

I think the days of the majority following any sort of life restricting guidelines have passed.

Agreed. Any restrictions bought in now will happen every winter for the foreseeable future. If you're triple jabbed what more can we do? I'm certainly not altering my life to protect anti-vaxxers, as they've made a free choice.

I do think if we do lockdown, the rule breaking will be unlike anything we've seen in previous lockdowns, as there seems to be far less appetite in the UK for more restrictions now, especially after all the Downing St xmas party leaks. People have had enough, so the lockdown would help, but not as much as previous lockdowns in my opinion given less adherence but also due to increased transmissibility of Omicron.

I think some form of the furlough system is what they will do...  No doubt it will be abused as badly as it was last time though...

Abuse of the system is part of the cost, no system will be perfect so the question becomes "is the cost of the abuse worth it for the genuine support it gives?" You can't just say the system gets abused so we shouldn't do it, see also benefit fraud.

A furlough of some sort for hospitality seems like the only logical way to do it. But, if hospitality get support I’m sure lots of other effected industries will have something to say!

Something has to give though. Or a lot of businesses with crumble and their staff will be out on their asses at Christmas. That’s not going to make for pretty headlines!

Really hope they do bring in some financial support for businesses. We had tickets for a show last week that was cancelled because the theatre made the choice to shut itself for 10 days. That kind of thing isn't sustainable.

As it was I was relieved to not have to cancel or make a decision on it because we are trying to reduce our contacts in the run-up to seeing family, but I really feel for the theatre and many others in their position.

I've cancelled three meetings with friends as well so that's all money that would have gone to hospitality. Like others have said, it's mainly so we don't bring omicron to my in-laws, one of whom is immunocompromsied. Not sure what I'll do post Christmas re socialising as I suspect it will be somewhat out of my hands!

In other news I had Moderna for my booster and it proper kicked my arse. Felt like shit for a good few hours and arm is still a bit sore nearly a week on! Was glad to get it though.

I was given a choice between Moderna and Pfizer and went with Pfizer off the back of pretty much everyone I know saying Moderna gave them shit side effects.  Other than swore arms Pfizer gave me nothing (AZ first two doses and had covid recently).

I've had 3 Moderna vaccinations alongside covid in Jan of this year and apart from an achey arm I had no side affects at all.

I know you only heard from me about Reading Rising 24 hours ago, but as we all know at the moment 24 hours is a long time in the world of COVID and Omicron.

Sadly members of several bands due to play Reading Rising this week have failed their Lateral Flow Tests and as a result the organisers are postponing the event. The event will be rescheduled for 2022 as early as it is safe and practical to do so

This x1000. I cannot tell you how much the abuse argument about people receiving benefits infuriates me, not least given it is a drop in the ocean compared to recent, huge government corruption!
